Nourish Cohorts

Nourish aims to use the power of food to build health for people and the planet. We believe that a cohort model, which emphasizes peer learning and experimentation in a community of practice, has the potential to foster pan-Canadian learning and innovation around the intersections of food and health.

Innovator Cohort (2016 - 2019)

Nourish’s first cohort was the Innovator Cohort, which brought together health care Innovators shaping the future of food in health care from 2016 to 2019. Innovators from across the country worked within their organizations and on national collaborative projects to use food in health care to improve the patient experience, organizational  culture, and community well-being.

Anchor Cohort (2021 - 2023)

Nourish’s second cohort, the Anchor Cohort, supported health care and community partnerships to collaborate around the interconnected impact areas of health and wellbeing, equity, and climate, using food as a lever for change. These partnerships are called Anchor Collaboratives. Anchor Collaboratives from across Canada came together as a Cohort from 2021 - 2023 to tackle issues ranging from health inequity and food insecurity to diet-related chronic disease and climate change.

Anchor Collaboratives were diverse and included physicians, nurses, dietitians, food service managers, community leaders and organizations, public health officials, senior leaders, and others.

Anchor Cohort (2023 - 2025)

Nourish’s third national health care leadership and innovation Cohort has been selected and is preparing to launch in September 2023. The next Anchor Cohort again brings together hospital and community partnerships united around the shared goal of applying the power of food to take action on the climate crisis, improve health equity, and promote community wellbeing.
