Nourish Food for Health Levers

The Food for Health Levers are a resource that frames the powerful ways we can impact climate, equity and community well-being through food in health care.

Levers are “the places within a complex system (a corporation, an economy, a living body, a city, an ecosystem) where a small shift in one thing can produce big changes in everything.”
— Donella Meadows

These leverage points help us make connections between our food, health, social and ecological systems. Anchor leadership can harness the long-term presence, mission, and resources of health care institutions to “anchor” wellbeing in their communities through food.

The Levers can reach their greatest potential when working in concert, but taken individually they can also be powerful starting points. Just as when you begin to pull on the edges of a tablecloth and the rest comes with it, pulling at one lever tugs at the others.

We envisage this resource as evergreen, continuing to evolve as our learning and network grows. We welcome your feedback and ideas!
